Drum Corps News: Troopers - World Open, CYO National & North Champions
The Troopers’ distinctive Cavalry uniforms, straight out of the West of a hundred and eleven years ago, identify the boys and girls from Casper, Wyoming on sight. Being one of the first junior drum corps’ to ever win a national title, comprised of both boys and girls, the Troopers have earned a name for fine music, outstanding marching and maneuvering, friendliness, discipline, and espirit de corps. The romantic appeal of the West, the patriotic tradition of the U. S. Cavalry, the excellent military bearing, precision marching, stirring music, sweeping drill patterns-all combine to create a unique emotional impact. Since 1965, the Troopers have won the World Open twice, in 1965 and 1969; the V.F.W. National title in 1966; the CYO Nationals in 1968 and 1969; and North American Invitationals in 1968 and 1969. Their schedule this summer includes the National V.F.W., World Open, CYO National and the North American Invitational (Toronto) contests, plus many other competitions in the East and Midwest. The corps was organized in 1957 and made their first public appearance in 1958. Since that time over 1,000 Casper boys and girls have participated in this fine group.

National title consistently since 1965, The American Legion National title in 1964, 1966 and 1969. Earlier this year the Color Guard won the Midwest Color Guard Circuit championship for a third straight time.
The Trooper Cadets
The Trooper Cadet Corps was started in 1961 as a training unit for the Troopers. These members are Troopers in every sense and when a vacancy occurs in the Trooper’s line-up, a Cadet Corps member fills the vacancy whether It be bugles, drums or Color Guard. With few exceptions every member of the older corps has been advanced from the Cadets. The Cadets travel to various cities within the State, participating in parades, and giving its competitive maneuvers. Twenty girls are in the Color Guard and there are 50 drums and bugles. The Color Guard acts as a separate unit from the Corps and has a competitive drill of 4 to 6 minutes of its own. The all-girl Color Guard has competed in Boulder and Denver, Colorado; Rockford and Chicago, Illinois, and has been to Wichita and Great Bend, Kansas. The Guard participated in the National American Legion Color Guard competition at Portland, Oregon in 1965. They defended the Trooper’s National Title at Boston, Mass., in 1967. In addition to traveling throughout Wyoming this summer, they shall compete in the Nebraska American Legion competition. There is a possibility that the guard unit will again journey to Portland, Oregon, to be in the National American Legion Contest.
