Weekly Events and Schedule 12/1 - 12/5
Thanks to those who participated in the pep-band this past weekend as the Eagles took on Colquitt County in Moultire. Even though the season ended with a loss, advancing to the third round of the playoffs is a historic accomplishment for Eagles Football, and many thanks to everyone who makes it possible for the band to support the team throughout the season!
Wind Ensemble members are reminded that the combined Savannah/USC trip payment is due by December 15th. The cost is $182.00 for wind ensemble students in marching band and $217.00 for non-marching band students. See the attached document that went home at the start of the school year for a cost break down and agenda. (There is no payment for MID due in December this year so that percussion students in both groups will not have two participation fees due in the same month).
Schedule for the week:
Monday - Winterguard, 4-6:30 (a required parent/student meeting will take place from 6:30-7 in the orchestra room after rehearsal). MID leadership interviews: 6-6, MID Rehearsal, 6-9pm.
Tuesday - Jazz Ensemble rehearsal, 4-6pm. Winterguard 4-6:30pm.
Wednesday -
Thursday - Jazz Combo, 3:45-5, Winterguard 4-6:30, MID 6-9:00pm
Friday - Wind Ensemble guest clinicians (Dr. Kehler, KSU, Dr. Braishier, VSU), MID Rehearsal, 4-9pm (dinner provided).

Silver Divison Grand Champions!
Great job at this weekend's football game vs. Woodstock and at the McEachern Marching Band Competition. After their best performance of the year, the band was awarded trophies for first in class honors, best in division percussion, visual, music, and general effect and were named Silver Division Grand Champions! In addition to this, they received the highest music score for the entire day (out of 13 bands), and the second highest overall score of the entire day.

Volunteers Needed for Verizon Movie Night on October 25th
Hi Everyone,
I am looking for 12 volunteers for Saturday's Movie Night. It will be an easy night....5pm to about 9:30 pm. With over 200 marching band parents, this should not be too difficult to fill. I urge anyone who is not attending the band competition to help out. It takes a village to make this fundraising event work. When we make over $35,000 at Verizon, we cannot take this fundraiser lightly. If we cannot fulfill our commitments to Verizon we run the risk of losing this important fundraiser. You might ask what this means to you...it could be additional fundraisers, less money available for the band to use for competitions or trips like the Vetetans Day Parade or it could mean higher dues. I realize everyone is busy, we are at the end of our season and everyone is over the volunteering business....we just have to get through this one and Verizon will be off our plates until Good Friday.
Please check your calendars, call out the babysitters, divide and conquer, or whatever you need to do to finish this year at Verizon on a high note!!!!
Thanks,
Paula

American jazz legend: Ron Carter will be visiting!
I am very excited to report that this Thursday, American jazz legend Ron Carter will be visiting MHS during the school day. Mr. Carter is the most recorded jazz bassist in history and since the 1960's has performed with Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and many other musical legends and cultural icons. Our jazz students will have the opportunity to work with him and others will be invited to watch an open rehearsal/clinic that he will run during the school day.

Sprayberry HS Competition Wrap-Up
Great job this past week at the Walton game and Sprayberry Competition, and as always, thank you to the amazing parent support we have in our chaperones, equipment crew and volunteers. The band had two great performances this past weekend, and in competition yesterday was awarded first in class/division percussion, and first in class drum majors and colorguard. The band was also awarded 2nd in class 4A overall band. Please come support the band at the final competition of the year, this Saturday at McEachern. It would be great to have a huge MHS cheering section in the stand!

Four rehearsals are scheduled for the week of Sept 8 - 12
With the weather forecast being what it is, students need to be prepared to go outside on Monday if the weather is clear. Four rehearsals are scheduled this week in order to make further progress into the field show, and we hope to spend three of those outdoors. If the weather is clear Monday afternoon, we will take advantage of this and hold an outdoor rehearsal on the lower field. Thank you in advance for your flexibility.
