From the 1994 Excitement of Sound, Houston, TX Program:

Classics never go out of style, and after a few years of a successful rebuilding process, the Troopers are coming…AGAIN! The 1994 program, Southwestern Sketches, promises to excite audiences from coast to coast.

Sunrise, an original composition by resident composer Fred Taylor reflects the stillness of an open prairie as melodic chants signal the coming of the dawn, but the intensity rises to a spectacular high as the new day begins. Sunrise uses timbre and colors unique to drum corps instruments to create a sure crowd-pleaser and add to the list of Troopers traditional favorites. Look for the color guard to incorporate modern dance and expressive colors to help the audience experience the most beautiful of southwestern sunrises.

Scherzo by John Cheetham, a piece made famous by the Canadian Brass, has a distinctly noble western heritage that only the Troopers can express. Used primarily as a percussion feature, Scherzo will highlight the brass section with a first-ever uniform change and exciting motion segments to help depict scenes from the old and new West. Startling visuals and fast-paced melodies allow fresh, new staging ideas.

The music of Morton Gould has always complemented the Troopers, and the final production of Santa Fe Saga will bring an exhilarating end to a perfect show. Several style variations and moments of arousing impacts give the corps a fresh Southwest flavor. This summer, look for “America’s Corps” to take you through an unforgettable journey through the new West!
