From the 1986 DCI Championship Program:

“A Western Weekend” Is the 1986 offering from the Troopers, of Casper, WY. A portrait of the variety and vitality of the American West, the program portrays the heroic and humble elements of a life unique to “America’s Corps”. Friday night, the 11th Cavalry comes to town on the symphonic strains of Morton Gould’s “American Salute.”

Entwining the feelings of triumph, wistfulness, and exhilaration with the melody of “Johnny Comes Marching Home,” the music is a giant all-night “Welcome Home!” Saturday starts in sleepy reverie, building to the Western celebration of “Silverado.” This film score is the perfect setting for a wide-open hoedown, with a heel-kicking, toe-tapping square dance.

Sunday dawns with worship gathering everyone together for the traditional “Prayer of Thanksgiving.” Then, it’s off to saddle the horses for adventure on the heels of Copland’s “Red Pony.” With the famous gold and white flags flying, the Troopers leave again to win the West. Only the bold echo of “Battle Hymn” sings out their farewell.
