Friday, January 8, 1960

Fair and cool. Sun is shining after two days of rain. Land very wet. Haul out manure out of cow shelter at lot and spreading picker beds. Cut a load of wood at back pasture. I went to Pinetops looking for a tenant. Turner lost his driving license due to conviction of 90 miles per hour. He was notified today. The Halifax bull injured his leg or hip from jumping out of the bull pen, I don’t know how bad.

Monday, January 11, 1960

Fair and cool. Gassed four tobacco beds, last of 1400 yards. I was in Rocky Mount all pm at a Feeder Calf meeting.

Tuesday, January 12, 1960

Cloudy and cool. Spreading peanut picker beds and straw from about Hay shelter. (?) went to Bethel to look for a sharecropper. Sarah and I bought a dog, female wire-haired terrier. Name Tammy. Age __ From Umstead, Rocky Mount, N.C. $40.00.

Wednesday, January 13, 1960

Fair and warm. 85 degrees on back porch at house. Hauling out wet straw from along cow shelter at silo. Sent wheel disc to Center for repairs. Sowed 300 yards of plant beds using 20lbs of seed. Tidewater (?) and Pole Company started cutting pines.

Thursday, January 14, 1960

Cloudy and cool. Sowed 400 yards plant bed. Hauling out straw from about hay shelters. I went to Hobgood to look for a sharecropper and then went to County Commissioners’ meeting about waterline from Grenoit Mill beyond the new hospital.
