Color Guard

Thank you for your interest in the
2014 Troopers Color Guard!

We are excited for the exciting new journey that this summer will hold for the Troopers Color Guard, and eagerly invite you to come be a part!

If you are interested in auditioning for the Troopers Color Guard, you will need to click on the auditions tab then follow the link on the left side that says “4 Easy Steps to Audition”. In the third step, you will need to select which camp you will be attending:

In the fourth step, you will have to pay the $75 registration fee via PayPal.

Once we have received your  registration  information and fee, you will be allowed to attend one of five audition camps. Please be aware that the Troopers Color Guard will be filled first by outstanding in-person auditions, and THEN by those who submit an outstanding video audition. Therefore, it is in your best interest that you attend an audition in person in order to be considered for the color guard.

Additionally, no video audition will be reviewed until we
have received the registration and fee.

The Audition Process

You do NOT need to prepare a routine or choreography of any sort for your audition—your skills will be evaluated while learning the technique program throughout the weekend. Your training will involve learning technique in both movement and equipment, and the audition will include learning choreography so that you may demonstrate how well you perform those skills combined. It is important that ALL members have a strong base of movement and flag technique. If you are only interested in auditioning on flag, that’s fine! Those who wish to audition on rifle or saber will be asked to audition on both pieces of equipment.

It is a good idea to take dance or yoga classes over the winter months to prepare for the upcoming season. Although any style is acceptable, a class that will help you develop a stronger technique base is preferred (i.e. ballet barre class).

Please remember to bring the following items for your audition:

  • spinning gloves;
  • rifle and/or sabre if you own one;
  • dance wear (spandex and/or form fitting clothing – not too long or baggy);
  • a water jug that will last for the entire day (some facilities don’t have water fountains close by).

Video Tape Auditions: Video Auditions are for extenuating circumstances only. If you are unable to attend the camps due to extreme circumstances, please contact Danielle with your situation so we may discuss via email at troopersguard2013@gmail.com. After your situation has been approved, please register on the Troopers website as listed above, then mail your audition video to:

Danielle Schweiger
Troopers Color Guard Audition 2014
9755 Randall Drive, Suite 101
Indianapolis, IN 46280

The video should contain:

  1. An introduction of yourself that includes your past experience

  2. Examples of your movement and dance ability (technique and choreography)

  3. Your flag and weapon skills (technique and choreography).

Your video has no time limit, but be certain that you are performing at your highest ability (include spins, tosses, and choreography).  Keep in mind that you need to demonstrate an ability to move and spin at the same time.

Please also give a good demonstration of your ability to acknowledge the audience, despite the fact that there likely isn’t one behind your video camera. This is a difficult task, but we would like to see that you have the ability to perform!
