Coaching

The Wilson Barracudas Swim Team has always been marked by our excellent coaching.

Rob & Christel Dermer are looking forward to their sixth season as Head and Assistant Coaches at Hunt High School, which have resulted in four consecutive conference championships and four consecutive Coach of the Year awards for Christel in the Eastern Conference. Christel was also named Wilson Daily Times Coach of the Decade for swimming in 2019.

With diverse swimming and coaching experience ranging from age group to collegiate levels, our coaches bring a broad spectrum of perspectives that have allowed them to develop a highly effective method of training for our Team's success, in and out of the pool. They both swam from the age of 8 in US Swimming, continuing through college at UNCW on scholarships. Their in-pool accomplishments collectively, include Jr. National and Sr. National Qualifiers, High School State Champion, US Olympic Trial Qualifier, CAA Conference Champions, Deans List Recipients, and multiple year Team Captain for UNCW. Their coaching experience includes over 20 years of combined deck time working with age group level, technique focused coaching, to top competitive collegiate coaching, including Senior National Qualifiers, High School State Championship Finalists and Champions, and an Olympic Trial Qualifier. Based on their experiences, they have developed a coaching philosophy that is very technical focused, with a structure that promotes a Team first environment but also prioritizes individual instruction and preparation needed to achieve desired goals. Their attention to the fundamentals has been reflected in their summertime efforts with swim lessons within the community ranging from learning to swim, to racing techniques.

We look forward to your swimmer(s) having the opportunity to work with our wonderful coaching staff.
